There is a special hell for those who do not use spoiler space when discussing movies I want to see, especially not when it's only the day after opening night.

One of my mailing lists (not a firefly one, so hopefully it didn't affect that many folks) just had someone post a reply that effectively spoiled at least a half dozen aspects of the movie.

It was a response to someone who used very simple one-or-two word phrases to touch on things they'd been confused about or touched by, or thought were cool (I had been avoiding reading the Serenity threads in order to avoid the possibility of spoilers, but the replies had no spoiler, so it got me as soon as it hit my in box.) The first person was very kind, and only put things like "Inara". Yes, we all know Inara was in the movie, and the significance of saying it didn't spoil a damned thing. The jerk who went into detail about why the first person had posted the name, however, just fucked over me (And whoever else didn't manage to avoid reading it before realizing what it was) without so much as a dinner date first.

DAMMIT

I hate that!

Mind you, I still want to see it, but there are now several things that will not be surprises that should have been, and I'm mad as hell about it.

give us their address...

Having had the same experience, I am happy to clarify the error of his ways to him.

Kindly of course.

As kindly as you can be with a crow-bar anyway.

Yeah. I kind of ranted. For those of you who haven't seen a Jess Rant, it looked kind of like this (note it was functional (as spoiler space) as well as ranty... we are nothing if not efficient):

OH FOR GODS SAKES

SPOILER SPACE PLEASE

GRRRR

It's
Only
The
Day
After
Opening
And
Now
I
Know
Too
Much.

Dammit.

I wasn;t surpised to see Inara at all... but the biggest suprises are with other characters, so hopefully things are not ruined too much. There are some space scenes that rule, and lots af great lines, so you should go see it as fast as you can. :)
Sorry some of it got spoiled.

Nah, I was using her as an example (the spoilers actually involved two other characters), but I didn't want to use their names, as I really do try to avoid spoiling things for folks even slightly. :)

Even being told...things...I promise that it won't ruin anything for you.

Honest!

This story can't exactly be conveyed in just words..

However, it should be seen on the big screen..walk, nay run.

I couldn't believe that River was a Slayer. I mean, who knew? ;-)

Oh, I pretty much got that from the minute Spike showed up, but when they told me that Mal was cursed to turn into a vampire if he was ever truly happy, I was really pissed.

Well I haven't seen firefly or the movie yet. I am going to try to see the series before I see the movie. So no spoiling it! ;)

Jess, for what it's worth, knowing what happens is not neceesarily the worst thing that could happen. After all, if you like the writing of the show and the acting...then even knowing what happens could never take away the joy of watching the characters do their thing from beginning to end. Granted, the level of intensity might not be the same, but the knowing will be a major emotional factor in your first sitting.

I intend to not only see this film a second time, but perhaps more than that...and it is, without question or doubt, a DVD keeper (whether it has extras in it or not...even if Simon's shirt is on or off...).

Even knowing things, you will be so glad you saw it. Serenity is an AMAZING film.

Joe

My two cents' worth.

I haven't seen it, yet. I intend on seeing it while I'm on hometime. I wanted to see it on premier night, but alas the only load to get me home was one to Albany that delivered at 04:00 on Saturday... FOO!

*sigh* I'm still urked that FOX took it off the air... it was so pretty. It could've been the next Babylon 5! Now they're playing what they had of the series on SciFi channel in TV format, when it was origionally letterbox. Oh well... it's better than nothing.

Perhaps I'll raid WayfarerAtlas' DVD collection for his DVD Firefly set and burn copies... For the road of course. :P

The biggest spoiler for me was the whole going into the Reaver aspects, revealing how they are actualy vampires, and meeting up with their leader..their version of the Master. Now that was cool.

Damn you! How could you spoil that part for me?

Here I was thinking they were the Vorlons.

LOL you'll notice that I have said NOTHING about Serenity, and I never read discussion boards on it. So I went in knowing nothing about Firefly, had meself a great time, and have refrained from spoiling.

*gets little gold star, pins it on self* Now, if you were to email me and ask me to squee about the movie...
