Was it irony on her part that she has the first name of Lilith and she is writing books about a character named Dante?

:)

Nope, no irony. I didn't even realize it until someone pointed it out to me that another one of my characters is named Dante. When they did, I actually stammered out, "But that's what she said her name was!" and much hilarity ensued.

I'm SO buying it!

Then I can say "Oh yeah - I KNOW her" even though ONE post on LJ probably doesn't count - but hey - I'm a FANGIRL - we don't have to be RATIONAL!!!!

LOL Actually fangirls are fangirls for very rational reasons. :) I myself and a squeeing Tanith Lee fangirl.

*big hugs* wow, I am feeling a lot better today. Thanks for the pick-me-up.

Always glad to be of service!

This has an appealing snap to it, and she has a nice sense of humor. But in a future as far as she claims to be in, who would remember Indiana Jones? Or still use Ralph Blum fake runes? Her grammer lapses in a couple of places, but a touch of copy editing usually takes care of that, and chances are she'll get the mistakes corrected.
I like it. Much like Anita Blake. I want to see more of her future also.

Good questions.

The "Indiana Jones" in question is actually "Indiana Jones, Magi" (a holovid series following the exploits of Saint Jones as he battles the Forces of Darkness.) You get to see a little more of it as the series progresses, it is intended tongue-in-cheek.

As for the "Ralph Blum fake runes"... The Nine Canons did have their inception in the modern system of rune divination (well, one of 'em, anyway) but their description makes it clear they're not Mr. Blum's runes. Nice catch, though.

The Sneak Peek is actually even before editing, it's of the first draft, I believe. So the grammar is cleared up (hopefully) by now.

Thanks for the questions. :) And thanks for the shout-out, Jess! (BTW, you're in the acks.)

MaGI is the plural. MaGUS is the singular, or in English, mage. That was actually one of the typos that I was talking about.

Will you be able to post more of it? And is there an estimated date for publication?
*looking forward to reading more fun Lucifer stuff*

Magus and Magi wasn't a typo. It was a conscious choice: Magi singular, Magi plural in the book- which, I think, is no odder than other "urban fantasy words." For a variety of reasons, I chose to leave the word "magus" out of the book- though you will be happy to know that the copyeditor suggested otherwise. :)

The book is due out in March 2006 from Warner, it can be preordered on Amazon. I can't post more of it at this point, but you have made my wizened little author's heart go pitter-pat by wanting more "fun Lucifer stuff." As a character, he is a lot of fun to write. :)

okay

Hmm. Well, at least it wasn't a typo.
I spend far, far too much time proofreading and grading student papers, and I have to grade for grammar and spelling because no one else does and the world is coming to an end.

Well, March isn't far off. And the shirts look cool too.

Those who grade for proofreading and spelling are angels in disguise. Copyeditors are frigging saints, man. Seriously. I am glad for copyeditors, proofreaders, grammar checkers. They're like car mechanics. They keep everything moving along smoothly, and one does well to listen to them and buy them donuts. Maybe I should design a T-shirt that says, "Grammar Assassin." That'd be sweet.

The reason behind Magi as singular and plural is this:

simple version: the character was insistent "that's the way it is."

complex version: "Magus" refers to a pre-Awakening spiritual experimenter (John Dee, Crowley, Gurdjieff). "Magi" in the current (in the novel) sense refers to a post- Awakening spiritual professional, usually accredited. The word "Magus" has fallen into disuse because of the connotations of charlatinism and unprofessionalism, which accredited psions wish to avoid at all costs.

:) ?Shirts? Did I miss the shirts? Or did you see the Unholy Swag gift shop?

*big mischievous grin* Which Lilith?
