In which we are so close we can taste it.
Sep. 27th, 2005 12:15 amFinished the next to the last chapter that I still need to write for the book... Tomorrow, after I get Autumn off to school, I'll tackle the last one, then there will just be some details, winding in bits, strengthening "foreshadowing",fleshing out the glossary (Which I don't know if will ever see print, but it's pretty nifty if I may say so myself... and obviously, since this is my journal, I may) and then I can print it and edit it, print it again and send it off to await its fate.
I'm pretty pleased with it, all in all. I don't know how to judge my own work, but I've done tons of research, and I think it's an interesting story and well written. If Tor's not interested, I'll look at whatever critique they might have of it, see if I can fix any thing they point out as broken and see if I can find another home for it.
I'd like to do Nanowrimo. I wrote more than 60K words of this novel in the last month, so I am sure I could get the basics at least of the second book in the series done in November, but I've got contracted writing to do for White Wolf that will probably keep me mostly busy through the end of the year, so the second will have to wait for then. Responsibilities come before pleasure.
Total wordcount: 91058
Ratio done: 1(woohoo!) or more precisely 51/56ths or 91.06%
Aproximate Pages: 325.2071429 (why I felt it necessary to have excel work this out to seven decimal points, I don't know)
Goal date to finish: 9/28/2005
Days left to goal: 1.00 As it's officially after midnight on Monday
Words per day to meet goal of 100K: 8942 (thankfully, it looks like the full 100K won't be necessary so I don't have to kill myself to try to write 4471 per day over today and tomorrow).
I'm contemplating La Serenissima for a title for the first book in the series, and Chronicles di Venezia for the series. It means "The Serene One" which is a nickname for Venice, and Chronicles of Venice, or Venetian Chronicles, (Which is too much like Martian Chronicles for me to use it with a straight face) for the series.
Other ideas very much an option, but for now, my brain is tired, and the alarm goes off in 5 hours. gah. I'm an idiot. A dedicated idiot, but an idiot all the same.

Date: 2005-09-27 02:33 pm (UTC)One thing I would worry about, Ventian Chronicles sounds more like the Vampire Chronicles of Anne Rice, so I would possibly avoid Chronicles if you could.
Keep us informed, as usual. I want to know how it is working for you. I need to get off my butt and research where to send my book... Then off it goes! That will be my Oct. goal.
