In which we ask for help...
Jul. 29th, 2004 12:39 pmOn two unrelated projects...
If you have a favorite werewolf movie/book, please recommend it to me? Likewise with ones you hated?
I've just finished Canyons (interesting, but very "gross-graphic", not "dark-sensual-graphic" to me), Bitten (one of the best books I've read recently), Werewolves (The collection of short stories editted by Jane Yolen)...
Ditto with movie/books featuring courtesans, especially those set in Venice? I'm familiar with Dangerous Beauty, but looking to expand my experience with them...

Date: 2004-07-29 12:57 pm (UTC)Werewolf books: I liked Fool Moon, When Will You Rage and Drums around the Fire, but hated Wyrm Wolf.
Courtesans: Brotherhood of the Wolf. I loved Monica Belucci's character, who was unnamed in the U.S. theatrical release but is listed with a name in the credits and is named in the director's cut. Her character is Italian, although the movie is set in France.

Date: 2004-07-29 01:56 pm (UTC)As for books: Laurel Hamilton's Blue Moon (as well as The Killing Dance and the Lunatic Cafe), and one of Tanya Huff's Blood [something] books has a great werewolf family in it.

TV Series:
"Werewolf" (back in the mid 80's. Main character was bitten by his friend, who he kills in defense but then is pinned for his murder. Goes on the road to find/kill the head werewolf to free himself from the curse.
"Wolf's Rain" series currently running on Cartoon Network on Saturday nights. Not really about werewolves but wolves that have the ability to appear as humans to avoid detection. Visuals and dialogue are top notch. One episode will hook you in.
Books:
"Bitten" by Kelly Armstrong, "Blue Moon", "Killing Dance" and "Lunatic Cafe'" by Laurell K Hamilton, "Prince of Wolves" by Susan Kinard (yeah, its a romance type but I liked some of the ideas in it)
*Terrible* werewolf book
Date: 2004-09-02 04:34 pm (UTC)And Peg points out that Rob missed a great werewolf T.V. show: Wolf Lake. There were only a few eps, but it was great. Lou Diamond Phillips and Graham Greene. Heh.
Re: *Terrible* werewolf book
Date: 2004-09-02 05:03 pm (UTC)I've had it out from the library and been trying to dig my way through it off and on (mostly off) for weeks. I keep thinking "wow, this is an interesting concept, but they handled it /terribly/".
I'll see if Pat can't dig up some copies of Wolf Lake! Thanks!
On courtesans, sort of

Date: 2004-09-02 05:10 pm (UTC)Oh, and if you haven't watched it already, watch Firefly. One of the characters is a courtesan, and she's awesome. :)
