In which we aren't quite done...
Feb. 3rd, 2009 07:49 amThe Valkyrie didn't cough last night, but woke up coughing again this morning. She's staying home again today. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's just the dregs of her cold, and that tomorrow she'll be fine. That happens some times, right? A cold gets worse for a day before it gets better, as the mucus starts to congeal and such? (It's saying something about the general state of my mental facilities right now that I don't even hesitate to write "mucus" and "congeal" in the same sentence in an unfiltered post any more.)
In a slightly bizarre side note, the lady across teh street *Who I barely know... we've spoken maybe two or three times in the year and a half we've lived here) sent her husband over today to invite me to come play mahjong with her and her friends. They apparently meet at her house every Tuesday and play mahjong from 9am to noon, or sometimes until later in the afternoon. I know I'm past the 40-year mark, but things like this make me feel very strange. I know she's in her 60s, and I'm anticipating that most of the other ladies are too. Will I feel like the kid being invited up from the kids' table at Thanksgiving? I don't know. But I like games, and I've always wanted to learn how to play mahjong (something about the tactile nature of the cool ceramic tiles) so in my sleep-deprived and stress-induced state, I said yes.
I think I'll go jump in the shower and put on a pretty face, and see about maybe running to the market to pick up some tea biscuits or something nice to share for nibblies.

Date: 2009-02-03 03:44 pm (UTC)And if no one has mentioned it lately, you are a great mommy.
Personally, I would be totally down with playing mahjong with the neighborhood biddies, but I am weird that way.

Date: 2009-02-03 04:09 pm (UTC)Myself and a few co-workers have been coughing for two months after we've recovered.
mahj
Date: 2009-02-03 04:17 pm (UTC)I never could figure that out.
Back east it's called "mahj" by blue-haired Episcopalian and Jewish ladies. :D
Hope miss V improves.

Date: 2009-02-03 04:31 pm (UTC)As to Mahjong...I love the game, although I am not sure how to play it in groups. I am sure you will make the group feel more alive than it's felt in decades. GO GIRL!!!
ok, so this is weird, but...
Date: 2009-02-03 04:49 pm (UTC)Last time I had pneumonia, I combined that strategy with the hottest salsa I could find (because the capsascin makes your phlegm thinner, go figure). It seemed to help, but oh, I was glad there was noone there to see me!
