In which we do the happy dance...
May. 31st, 2004 12:01 pmWent to the mall this morning... Much Cinnabon goodness was partaken of, and we got Nicki a pair of leg warmers (*Grin*)
Went to B. Dalton to try to pick up a copy of Carl Bowen's "A Day Dark As Night", the first book in the new Exalted series. I have it in a text file, but I wanted a real copy, to sit and read, and I wanted to see his authors notes and acknowledgements, etc... Basically to get a feel for what my book might look like. Besides, I just love books... Real Books. Text files will never compare, for me.
They didn't have it. Didn't have any record of it being in print, despite the fact that I had everything but the ISBN number memorized. Looked at me as if I was, perhaps, making up the existance of said book... Dorks.
So, I went to Waldenbooks...
When I walked up, the cute lady behind the counter was saying something to a male customer... Their conversation was basically about how there are three stats in D&D that you just can't fake... Wisdom, Intel and Charisma. If the player doesn't have them, they are going to have a hard time portraying a character with them...
Much more promising start to my book search...
She took me right to the book I was looking for, and when I asked if they ever do book signings or promotional work with local authors, she was thrilled and said they /love/ to do that kind of thing... So, she took my info, and we talked about the series, game writing and writing in general. Her husband apparently knows the Exalted developer (who I had never heard of, only working with the fiction aspect of it myself), and she stressed several times that November is a /great/ time to do a book signing (lots of pre-holiday mall traffic)... What a positive experience!
When we got out to the car and were driving home, Pat opened the book and was glancing through it...
In the front pages are a list of upcoming books... including mine...
I practically wrecked the car doing the happy dance! :)
It's just getting more and more real. I hope I never forget how magic this all feels, this first time...
