I just registered to vote. You should too.
This may be the single most important election of your life, of my life, of our lives.
I know that hundreds and hundreds of your rallied when I asked for your participation in the ENnies Awards voting.
Now I'm asking you for something really important.
If you are a US Citizen, and you're 18 or older - Register to vote. Vote however you feel you should in the election. But don't throw away one of our single most important rights.
I know a lot of you are feeling unimpowered, underinformed, helpless, nervous, and disconnected from what's happening. It's like we have no control over these things that are being decided, no advocates for our needs and those of our children, no voice...
Take back your voice. Register to Vote today, before it's too late. In some states, you can't register after the 4th of October. Do it now. It's more important than catching up on your flist. It's more important than reading that Harkness/Who slashfic. It's more important than that raid run on WoW or CoH or EQ. It's more important than the dweebs on the forums, the latest web comic or LOLcats. You've given them your time - now take some for yourself and register to vote online today.

I was done in less than a minute.
It's definitely the most important minute I've spent today.
How are you going to spend your next minute?

Date: 2008-10-01 10:47 pm (UTC)AND, if you have moved since you last voted within the same state or county, CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION. You may have to re-register.
If you live in a swing state, check to make sure you are still registered.
In some areas where the race is to be tightly contested, Republicans are asking for "voter reform" which consists of removing anyone from the rolls if his/her name does not EXACTLY match their driver's license records, for example. Jane D. Doe and Jane Dana Doe are not exactly the same and her voter registration could be removed. So check to make sure you're still registered in your precinct if you haven't voted in a long time. (County Clerk, Elections Division.)
Don't wait until election day and then find out you can't vote.

Date: 2008-10-02 03:47 am (UTC)IIRC, the 2000 presidential election here in WI was decided by about 5,000 votes, so there's really no fooling around.

Date: 2008-10-02 08:38 am (UTC)This will be my first presidential election that I'll be able to vote in. I turned 18 in 2005 a year after the 2004 election so this whole time I've been waiting with anticipation.
