Anyone have an "in" with the travel industry?

We're trying to book flights from Tucson to Indy over August 14-18 (Gencon). Looks like it's going to cost us about 300$ per person, $900 total. We've tried a day or so before and after, no real luck.

We've searched all the discount consolidators (Orbitz, Travelocity, Expedia, Kayak, Priceline, etc, as well as the direct site of the airline that was cheapest (NW Air).

Anyone have any ideas on how to save some money on this trip?

Owie!

FWIW, one common tactic for flying cheaper out of Tucson is to fly out of Phoenix.

Admittedly, it's another couple of hours of driving/riding, but popular enough that it supports a handful of shuttle services that are made up of mostly Tucson-Phoenix routes. This works well for Tucsonans, but it would extend your drive time.

A quick Yahoo Travel* check shows flights from ~$200 (Travel dates 13th or 14th and 18th) for PHX-IND.

*Yahoo Travel is really Travelocity, I believe

I could ask my Mom if you like. She's a travel agent. She might be able to come up with a way to save you some dough.

Keep an eye on Southwest.com - download their ding program even. They can sometimes get great deals out of the blue.

You can try all of those options...but also be aware that plane travel is just more expensive now than it used to be, even a few months ago. Fuel prices just keep soaring, and airport taxes and fees rise without warning (or in some cases, any real reason)....

Good luck!

As strange as it may sound, check with your current insurance company. I know Geico has www.GeicoPrivileges.com, and I thought Allstate had something as well. Certainly it couldn't hurt to ask.
