in which we poll the masses...

I'm considering doing something extreme with my hair.
I'm not sure what.
I'm debating possibly getting a body perm and just keeping the long wavy layers (ala 1940s style Veronica Lake...)
I'm also debating getting a very short, very dramatic concave bob ala Victoria Beckham... chin length in the front, much shorter at the nape of the neck.
either of these may or may not be accompanied by streaks (red? blue? white?)
anyway, I'm conflicted (not that this should be a surprise to any of you...)
So, what do you think? Any insight? Ideas?
"I like long hair on women" doesn't count... It's long now, but it's just hanging here, not very flattering, and consistantly gets pulled back into a boring ponytail because it's just... hanging there.
Pictures get you extra brownie points.

Date: 2007-09-08 04:09 am (UTC)What I currently have ends up looking a bit Veronica Lake-ish just because my hair is curly/wavy. I like it. I also have learned when I start preferring it in a ponytail, that means it's time to get it cut. I have no other opinion as a Victoria Beckham thing would look dreadful on me, so it makes it dificult for me to picture it on anyone else. I'd find a good hairstylist in the area and ask them. :)

I don't want to be paying for haircuts every couple of months (or more) to keep up a short hairstyle (not to mention the maintenance on short hair, getting it to lie just right seems a hassle to me). However, none of that may be a concern for you.
The important thing is to have hair that you enjoy and enjoy keeping up.

Date: 2007-09-08 09:18 pm (UTC)Another thought, though it should hardly be the deciding factor. Is there a particular style that the young one's friends would think was cool? I know you're already among the coolest moms out there, but just remember that if you do something too "not cool," it may have negative effects on her. God I love high school.
If all else fails, I say go for the Sephiroth look. Nobody would mess with you then.
BTW, just picked up Changeling. Awesome.

Date: 2007-09-10 02:12 pm (UTC)Perm and color have always been a bad combo from my experience.
You can do the short but it will take more work unless you go very short and wash and wear. Yes, it always grows out so Go For It Kid.

Date: 2007-09-10 04:41 pm (UTC)When I was living in Chicago I went to an expensive salon and talked to a stylist about facial shape, how much time I was willing to spend on my hair, etc. He gave me six different choices for hairstyles, and the one I chose worked well for me not only while it was short, but also as it grew out. Even after it had completely grown out, I was still reaping the benefits in that when I did get a haircut, I had a good idea what would work for me and what I *didn't* want.
