I'm considering doing something extreme with my hair.
I'm not sure what.

I'm debating possibly getting a body perm and just keeping the long wavy layers (ala 1940s style Veronica Lake...)

I'm also debating getting a very short, very dramatic concave bob ala Victoria Beckham... chin length in the front, much shorter at the nape of the neck.

either of these may or may not be accompanied by streaks (red? blue? white?)

anyway, I'm conflicted (not that this should be a surprise to any of you...)

So, what do you think? Any insight? Ideas?

"I like long hair on women" doesn't count... It's long now, but it's just hanging here, not very flattering, and consistantly gets pulled back into a boring ponytail because it's just... hanging there.

Pictures get you extra brownie points.

When I had long hair, I used to get all sorts of complements that said "gee, your hair looks great." After I got it cut, I got all sorts of complements that said, "gee, you look great." It's a subtle but important difference.

What I currently have ends up looking a bit Veronica Lake-ish just because my hair is curly/wavy. I like it. I also have learned when I start preferring it in a ponytail, that means it's time to get it cut. I have no other opinion as a Victoria Beckham thing would look dreadful on me, so it makes it dificult for me to picture it on anyone else. I'd find a good hairstylist in the area and ask them. :)

Keep it long, go wavy. Or maybe those absolutely lovely spiral curls...

I've had very long hair for years now, and I enjoy it a lot. However, I do also know a number of neat things to do with it: about 4 different buns I can do reliably, French and Dutch braids, braids pinned around my head... all sorts of things but never a ponytail as it tangles too easily that way.

The group [livejournal.com profile] longhair has an entire memory section devoted to hairstyles for long hair. If there are some you like and can do (that second part is important) then go for length.

I don't want to be paying for haircuts every couple of months (or more) to keep up a short hairstyle (not to mention the maintenance on short hair, getting it to lie just right seems a hassle to me). However, none of that may be a concern for you.

The important thing is to have hair that you enjoy and enjoy keeping up.

Go for something extreme! The beauty of hair is that it grows back. :D

Book a consultation with a stylist. Don't see someone who isn't willing to book you the time to just TALK to them about what is good, what is bad, how to achieve. I realized a lot of my hair issues could be solved by using the right products, rather than a drastic hair cut.

But I "DO" like long hair on women *smirk*

I agree, blue looks way hot on girls *nods firmly* I still have the hots for a certain person I met at a convention who was just damn HOT with her blue streaky hair... Mind you, it was short...

Short hair is cooler in the desert and easier to take care of, of course. A crewcut on a heavier woman is usually a bad idea. A lesbian at church has one and it just isn't flattering. My opinion, that's all.

A bob might be nice. A spike might look, um, bad. See a stylist- that is a good idea.

You can always go shorter later if you want.

Length doesn't matter so much, as long as you get the plaid coloring correct. I'm thinking maybe the Macgregor family colors would do well for you.

Another thought, though it should hardly be the deciding factor. Is there a particular style that the young one's friends would think was cool? I know you're already among the coolest moms out there, but just remember that if you do something too "not cool," it may have negative effects on her. God I love high school.

If all else fails, I say go for the Sephiroth look. Nobody would mess with you then.

BTW, just picked up Changeling. Awesome.

jess, altho the curls would look loverly on you, i want to warn you that perms pull out of long hair reeeaally quick. when i had hair to my waist, the perm lasted two to three months. it was a simple wave, which is prolly why but yeah.
steaks would look great i thinks ^^ a dark purple or red would be fun. just remember dark blue is nice...till it fades to green ^^;
perhaps cutting it a bit shorter and then adding curls or long layers?

oh and btw- i misses yous thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiis much! :hugglesquish:

I recently cut my hair short--mostly out of frustration--it was bugging me! Plus, it's been so damn hot, I just couldn't stand it anymore. I took the picture in and showed the stylist. I could tell she was trying very hard to please me but I just didn't like the results. It wasn't her fault. My hair just didn't look the way I hoped it would. I think if I had thought of doing it for the style reasons and not comfort, I might've been happier with the results. So, my expectations for it looking good short were very high. I can't wait for this to go grow out!

I think women should have longer hair than I do, So I'm all for the perm. That being said, I saw someone at the Moonlite Gardens show who I have mistaken for you except I knew you were no where near Cincy at the time and hadn't cut your hair- she had the bob you're considering, so I know you could pull it off.
I vote for red streaks

either of these may or may not be accompanied by streaks (red? blue? white?)

How about deep purple? Unless the Viking and Valkyrie would hate it...

I think the idea of talking to someone who KNOWS hair could probably save you a whole lot of frustration. As for cuts, I personally like a shoulder length, layered look on larger women. You can still pull it back into ponytails if you need to, but it's versatile, usually fairly wash and wear, and is very flattering. But that's just my opinion :D

I'd post pictures, but I just got home after a weekend away and I'm too lazy...

WHAT RED BLUE PURPLE!.....oh sorry that's just the Mom coming out.
Perm and color have always been a bad combo from my experience.
You can do the short but it will take more work unless you go very short and wash and wear. Yes, it always grows out so Go For It Kid.

Mine was down to my shoulder blades a month or so back. I cut it to two inches and suddenly everyone is telling me how "spunky" I look. I *think* that's a complement... :-)
When I was living in Chicago I went to an expensive salon and talked to a stylist about facial shape, how much time I was willing to spend on my hair, etc. He gave me six different choices for hairstyles, and the one I chose worked well for me not only while it was short, but also as it grew out. Even after it had completely grown out, I was still reaping the benefits in that when I did get a haircut, I had a good idea what would work for me and what I *didn't* want.

I say something funky, but flattering, and something that keeps you cool!!! Try donating hair to locks of love. You have gorgeous hair and it would be a shame to waste it if you decide to chop it off. ^_^
