Sometime in the next 7-10 days, the final hoop in our buying a house here in Bisbee will be put into play. Since we are using a VA loan (one of the benefits of the Viking having been military when we met), we have to have the house appraised by a government approved appraiser. If she values the house at what we've agreed to pay for it (250K) or higher, we're in the clear and can proceed with the sale. This would mean probably being into the house by the end of the month.

But.

If the house appraises for less than the price we've agreed upon, it sets off a whole chain reaction of bad. We have to then go back to the seller and ask them to lower the price (as the only alternative is to come up with the difference out of pocket, which just isn't something we can do.) Considering how unwilling he's been to accept anyone else's authority on the value of the house (the realtor, the building inspector, etc) it seems unlikely that he will come down significantly on the price due to the appraisal, so that leaves us potentially back at stage one, shopping for houses again, refinancing, etc.

So, if you have any spare good thoughts for me, the Viking, the Valkyrie and our (hopefully) house, I'd appreciate them over the next week or two.

Thanks ahead of time!

Oh, and for those of you who have expressed curiosity about "Great Aunt Selma's House" (the vacation rental we're staying in), there are some

This is the view from the dining half of the common room into the living room half of it... That desk in the corner? the one that's barely big enough to hold my laptop, let alone any books/papers I need to consult while writing? That's my office at the moment (well, at least when I'm not working out on the front porch instead.) Note the television less than a yard from the desk? Yes, this makes it difficult to work when anyone else is present and wants to watch tv (because there's little else to do here in the house, the tv stays on pretty constantly.)

The Valkyrie sitting on a beautifully painted playground tunnel at the park down the block. The artist is Rose Johnson, originally from England but now a Bisbee resident. Someday I want to be rich enough to afford a piece of her work... Heck, I want her to paint the whole inside of my house! (on a funny side note, before we moved to Bisbee, we saw Rose's house featured on "What's up with that house" on the Home and Garden channel!)

The Viking and Anubis at the same park.

The View from my office back into the dining room/kitchen. Not quite the same as the view from my old office, eh?

So yeah, good house thoughts! The sooner we're into a new place, the better! :)

That's a very... interesting pink on the walls there. (This from a person that loves pink.)

Sending lots and lots of good house vibes.

Wow. It's a pretty house, in its way, but it really does look like the kind of place where a Great Aunt Selma would live.

In this case, it's floors that are not only uneven, but have patched spots you can feel through the ancient (horribly stained) carpet. And dishes that... well, we started out with three bowls, two of them chipped. The pots and pans are of the "buy them at the dollar store" variety, so flimsy that it's almost impossible to fry an egg or such in them.

I'm being a whiner, I know, but I'm such a boggan and having the inability to... boggan... well is making me a little crazy. :)

As a totally traditional hobbit, let me tell ya... I UNDERSTAND!! It's isn't whining. It's releasing some of the distress from being in a constant state of discomfort. If you didn't blow off some steam once in a while, you would really go crazy! I'm amazed at how well you are handling moving across country, selling a home and trying to buy a new one all that the same time. Please be a little kinder to yourself and give credit where credit is due.

And sorry, didn't realize things were that tough. Will be sending extra mojo your way!! Best Wishes! ~Angelia
