In which we ask again...

I asked back in November, but got no responses...

If anyone here has had positive or negative experiences with an established literary agent, would they mind letting me know.

There are so many out there, and much like a lawyer or a plumber, it seems that they are all selling themselves as the best. I figured one of the best ways to find one (or several, as there's a good chance I may need to apply to several (many? hundreds?) before finding one who will be willing to represent my work.) would be to check with those who are pleased with their experiences with someone in the field.

Now that the final copy of my first book is off to the publisher, I need to come up with a game plan for the future... My first book was "write for hire" so no agent, no "shopping it around"...

Both Jim (Butcher) and Kit (C.E. Murphy) have had positive experiences with Jennifer Jackson of the Maas agency. Don't know how hard it is to catch her eye, though. :)

Jenn Jackson is apparently really busy. I tried to send a letter off to DMA myself, but on Catie's recommendation specifically did not address my letter to Ms. Jackson. Instead, I contacted Rachel Vater at the same agency. She turned me down, but she was quite polite about it, so that's good. :)

Other than that, though, at this point your guess is as good as mine, Jess! I've just sent my own first book's first three chapters and synopsis off to Tor--so eventually I'm going to have to find myself an agent as well.
