Lyme Disease/Heartworm/etc tests came back negative.

This is, however, not as "hurray" a situation as you'd think because at least, if it was Lyme, they would know and could treat it.

They sedated him for a better exam and the issue seems to be in his right side and lower abdomen (but back up towards the spine.)

They X-rayed, and there's some sort of swelling back by the lower lymph nodes. They can't tell more with the x-rays.

There's a couple of possibilities. They range from systematic infections of some sort (lymph, etc) to an abcess, to some sort of mass/growth, with the worst being, of course, cancer.

They want to do an ultrasound but he's got enough fecal mass in his bowels that they may not be able to do them now. She's going to take a quick peek for free (rather than the full ultrasound for $350) to see if she thinks she can get a decent view.

If not, I think they're sending him home, on a plan of fasting, painkillers and antibiotics, which would help if it's a systematic infection but not for anything beyond that. Then, once he's evacuated everything that could be blocking, they'll have to bring him back in, resedate him and try the ultrasound again.

If it's an abcess or infection, they can treat those pretty easily at the clinic. If it's a mass, they'll have to do a needle biopsy which will probably mean going to a specialist.

Please keep my little black doggy in your thoughts today. He's been pretty much my constant companion since we brought him home what seems like a lifetime ago.
