In which we are having a bad pet month...

Last night, the Viking took our Belgian Shepherd, Anubis, out into the backyard for his normal afternoon fetch game. A while later, Nubis was sleeping in the front room, and when he woke he was walking gingerly, ears down/out as if in pain. We figured maybe he'd just had one of his legs fall asleep while he was snoozing, as sometimes happens, but kept an eye on it. Half hour later, he was still acting like he was in pain, and when we stroked his hindquarters gently but firmly, he yiped as if it hurt him sharply. We figured he maybe just pulled something or pinched a nerve. It was post-vet hours and didn't seem like an emergency, so we thought we'd just keep an eye on it overnight.
Well, it's morning, and he's still obviously in pain. He didn't come up stairs at all last night (when it became obvious that he wasn't going to, I moved his big bed/cushion downstairs for him) and this morning he did, but he's obviously still hurting. 19 minutes until the vet opens. I've already called and left a message on the voice mail in case they happen to check it before official office hours open, but I'll be calling as the big hand reaches straight up, you can be sure. (Edit: They called and he has an appointment at 8:50 this morning)
I'm still leaning towards pinched nerve or pulled muscle, but... I'd appreciate it if you'd keep your fingers crossed for our little black buddy. He means the world to me and I really hope it's nothing serious.
