Except for the requirement to include one or more of their signature characters, it ought to be really easy to write a compelling 250-word pitch. The hard part will be writing just one. What I'm planning is to do is write half-a-dozen or so potential submissions and then ask friends to rate them. Wanna help, author-lady? *grin*

I'm a little annoyed that employees aren't eligible, frankly. But since I found out that I'd have to use the sigs, I'm happy not entering.

(Not that I have any special dislike of the sigs, but I like making up my own characters.)

I'm actually doing research right now to start my first original novel (non-media-tie-in) and it's posing it's own challenges.

I think no matter what you write, there's a challenge there. :)

But boy, a chance at the 10K advance would have been nice. :)
