In which we are getting settled...
Jul. 8th, 2005 10:10 amThings are beginning to settle here... Pat and I remarked to each other yesterday that it doesn't seem like we've only been here 12 days... there are still lots of boxes to empty, but they're mainly things we don't /need/. Books that will have to wait for a bookshelf, office stuff that will have to wait for more office furniture, seasonal or SCA stuff or memory boxes/mementos that will have to be brought up and stored long-term. But for now, with one cookie sheet, my electric griddle, one big pot and one fry pan, I'm cooking more than I have in weeks (And trying new recipes, which has been a blast).
Yesterday we went to the library and I came home with an armload of books... some on massachusetts, some on cooking (mmm... wraps and salad-suppers... not to mention a few on crock pot cookery and one on using your rice cooker for more than just... cooking rice... Who knew? We got ours for our wedding, almost 12 years ago, and while we use it at least once a week, I've never done anything more exotic with it than using broth in place of the water.)
We had to buy a new fridge fro the house, and it has an ice maker and water dispenser in it. Consequently, I'm drinking a lot more water (I think predominantly just for the novelty of using the new dispenser, but at least I'm building good habits).
Last night I made a fabulous taco salad for dinner, and today I got up and made the stuffing for rice and bean burritos (black beans, a bit of rice, some chopped peppers and onions and cilantro and a bit of picante sauce, all simmered together into a tasty mixture which, although now stuffed in the fridge, can be zapped at a moment's notice for quick lunches). I'm going to try to do more cooking and less "boxes" for meals. It was honestly not any harder/more time consuming to make up these wraps than it would have been to make hot dogs and mac and cheese, but my gods they taste a lot better.
We finally have garbage service set up, which is a relief, as we were starting to get overwhelmed with junk. It's all out at the curb now, awaiting pick up.
I'm going to go finish putting together the little computer desk we got for autumn, and the bookshelf that matches it, and then go hang up the laundry. I'm feeling horribly domestic of late. It's really kinda cool.
Oh, and tonight is the Bardic Night in the local barony, which I'm going to try to make it out to. And tomorrow, apparently, there is a non-camarilla Garou Larp that takes place in Amherst (15-20 minutes away)... I may go check it out.
