In which we respond...
Dec. 17th, 2004 11:10 amIt's been very busy, and I'm having a hard time keeping up with all the wonderful things happening in my life...
Because multiple people have asked, here are some "off the top of my head" things on my gift list for Yule this year... I hate these things. Please don't take this as a "you should get me something" demand, because it's totally not. I rarely exchange presents outside of immediate family. But if you've been wondering and you want to, these are things that make Jess happy.
****************************************************************************
Mix CDs of your favorite songs - especially if you take the time to include liner notes about why you like them. Very high school, I know, but what can I say, I'm just that kinda girl.
Ditto with copies of your favorite book (I'm /completely/ okay with "previously owned" gifts. I'm not one of the people who gets offended at being given an already read book, played game, etc.) One of my favorite gifts from past Yules was a list of "you should read these" books, with authors, and descriptions of why he thought I should read them. (Thanks, Cyranocyrano!)
Tips on conferences/conventions near you that are good for networking in the writing field (and offers of crash space!)
Gift cards/certificates anywhere, especially bookstores/office supply places. Believe me, even a $5 card will be gratefully used towards purchasing something I've been waiting to get which will then be thought of as "the thing you got me"...
Offers (and follow up on) an evening of child care, so Pat and I can go out together.
Chocolate. White, dark, milk, filled with liquor or raspberry or peanutbutter, plain, solid, liquid... chocolate is a goodness.
Offers of home-crafted things (baking, cooking, sewing, jewelrymaking, other neato things), especially if you are okay with giving me some say-so in the end product so it doesn't end up being red for a green room or have raisins when I prefer chocolate chips. One of the nicest presents I ever got was someone offering to take my fabric, trim and pattern and make me a costume when I was in a panic about time. It's still one of my favorite dels. (Thanks, Eleri!)
Chai. Love it. Chai Tea, Chai latte, sweet sweet chai!
Silver or silver-esque inexpensive earrings. I lose them constantly, so I have a rotating "favorite pair" that I wear until I lose them. Currently I'm really into sturdy hoops. I'm not big on rhinestones/colored jewelry.
PR. If you've read my book and enjoyed it, the absolute best Yule present you could give me is to share it with others. Let them know you know me. Let them know I'm new and I'm really working hard to kick off a writing career. Talk about my book with your gaming group, your bookseller, your librarian, your friends, your mom. Word of mouth is invaluable. If you haven't read it, make reading it my yule present. :) Then let me know what you think.
Or, if you think it sucked... tell me... help me get better. Then give me chocolate, cuz I am going to need it. :)
Yeah, that's pretty much my christmas list...
