So many of my posts of late have been work related... Probably because between the writing and writing travel, so much of my life has been work related of late.

Thought I'd take a moment to update non-work stuff (or at least non-career stuff).

The principal wrote us back and accepted Autumn's proposal for an alternate to the bug project. So, she's starting to collect photographic examples of various insects in the area. I'm a little disconcerned that the teacher himself did not write us, but... we'll take our little victory where we can get it.

We've found a replacement for me at the day job. I met her Friday, and she's a nice older woman named Edie. Next week, on Thursday and Friday, I'll be training her, then I'm outta there! Woot!

The Viking just bought himself a second-hand Bowflex Ultimate. He loves working out, and with his schedule (and the dearth of resources available in Bisbee), a home gym is the best option. And, in typical Bowflex fashion,it was 1/3 of the price of a new one, although the folks just bought it in January (we saw the receipt) and have maybe used it a dozen times since. He's very excited.

After taking a look at our finances, I won't be making it to many conventions in the next year. The exception, of course, is those conventions that a) want me to act as a guest and b) can afford to make that happen (lodging/transportation). I've spent more on travelling this year (even with some of the conventions providing some of the expenses) than I've /earned/ in writing this year. Now, mind you, there was a 3 month sabbatical in there where I wasn't writing, but... my gods. That's not a good career trend!

I will be making it to Phoenix this coming weekend (Labor Day) for [profile] saracate's bachelorette party. Sara is a phenominal person, and a great friend, and she's one of the best things about me coming back to the Cam. Her fiancee, Sean of the never-used LJ, is also amazing, and I'm very very happy for them.

And, today, we're driving up to Tucson to pick up our niece, Hannah. She and the Valkyrie hit it off like gangbusters in June when the Viking and the Valkyrie went to Hannah's brother, Holden's graduation. So while Hannah's out visiting her grandmother, we really wanted to get up and see her and let the two of them hang out. I think the plans include a trip to the zoo and maybe a movie. Should be a blast.
