Yesterday we spent the day bed-shopping, although we didn't order anything, and tv shopping although we didn't buy anything. We did, however buy dishes for the new house, on the idea that they were on sale (79 dollars per 4-person set, down from 129 per) and going up today and that they all pack into a smallish box, so if we actually hate them in the new house they'll be easy to return.
We all ended up with very sore feet, as the Holyoke mall is very long and we traversed it several times.
Then we went out to dinner with our realtor lady and her hubby, which was very nice, not only for great food, but for lovely company as well. At one point, I said "The hardest thing about the move, now, is just not knowing anyone in town." And she smiled at me reassuringly and said... "You know us. It will be okay." It was nice to feel like we had the seeds of friends here, although I keep reminding myself it could just be good business practices.
Autumn and Pat are still snoozing. We're packed into our hotel room like sardines, and I truly hope that we can spend the night in our new house tonight, although we've retained this room for one more night just in case. It will prevent us having to cart around everything we own like gypsies (no offense, Zingaro). The hotel would have allowed us to check out at one PM, or we could have an extended check out for 50$ extra (checking out at 5pm)... but another night is only 79, so we opted to spend the extra 30$ and know that we had the room (and access to the pool/tv, etc) until tomorrow morning.
This morning, we're going to drive down and pick up our insurance binder, and then come back to town and shop for beds at a local spot downtown in Northampton. Hopefully they may be able to either beat JC Penney's rates or deliver them before next weekend when JCP could, either would be an improvement. At 1:30 we're meeting Suzi, our realtor, at the new house to do a walk through, and then at 2:30 we sign paperwork making it ours for real. After that, we lug our 15 bags into the house, and make a list of things we need to start living there. (9 checked, 6 carryon on the airplane. That was insane, but we only had to end up shipping 2 boxes out here other than the POD and our luggage. At 75 bucks each, that was a great deal.)
We've driven by there twice now, and Pat and Autumn seem to like it. I hope that only gets stronger once they actually get inside. I hope the old owners haven't left it a horrible mess. I hope it's as great as I remember.
Keep your fingers crossed?
