In which we update...
Nov. 18th, 2004 10:57 amWow... so much to say, so little time...
So, of course, first a meme....
My journal is called _____ because _____.
Just Jess... This was the title of my first collection of poetry, and it sums up my thoughts fairly well. It's just me. No pretentions of saying anything that any one else needs to pay attention to, if they don't choose. Just my thoughts, my life, my feelings...
My subtitle is _____ because _____.
Well Behaved Women Rarely Make History... It's a quote from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. One of my best friends told me yesterday "Your Fatal Flaw is that you really want everyone to like you." Which is so very true. And if I didn't remind myself that, in the long run, if I want to make an impact on the world I can't be milquetoast about things, I would probably stay at home all day and knit bland colored afghans for babyshowers and weddings and never do anything exciting or interesting. I have to keep reminding myself!
My friends page is called _____ because _____.
Jess's Folks... I like to think that we all kind of belong to each other, so my friends are the folks that kind of belong to me. :) You hear that, you're MINE MINE MINE! :)
My username is ____ because _____.
JessHartley... Uh... it's my name. I used to have another, much more candid LJ, but in the preparations for the release of my first book I decided that some aspects of my life should probably be a bit more discrete (sigh) and started this one as a more professional journal. It hasn't always worked out that way, because I'm a very honest and straightforward person, but it's designed so that if others stumble across it, it probably won't offend /too/ quickly. :)
My default userpic is _____ because_____.
One of the photos that Pat took in a recent sitting of me. It's the color version of the black and white photo that's on my website (Www.jesshartley.com) and I think it's one of the best photos I've ever had taken of me. It makes me feel good about myself, not who I used to be, or who I am when I'm corseted and painted and being someone else, but who I am when I'm me... Just jess... and that makes me very happy.
