I'll need an address, of course, so I can mail you stuff and maybe come visit. (What part of MA is it again? Is it near a big airport? Logan?) snif. I don't want you to go away. snif. Okay, that part's done now. Woo! Yay new job, yay new life.
It's in Western Massachusetts, Northampton to be exact. It's about 45 minutes directly north of Logan (That's in Hartford Connecticut, yes?) or about 2 hours west of Boston.
*hugs*
I'm sad about leaving, but excited about the new possibilities!
Actually, I know of an adorable 1949 bungalo in a quiet area of town. About 1000 square feet on the main floor with the same below in a partially finished basement (which has another room we use as a bedroom, but because it's only got those little basement windows we can't sell it as one) as well as a huge storage room, laundry room with pantry and a rec room.
Hardwood floors everywhere but the kitchen (lineoleum) and bathroom (ceramic stone-look tile) upstairs. Detatched single car garage that's been converted into a shop.
The only drawback (And what basically drove us to look for a change) is the neighbors on both sides have punk-ass kids with attitudes and criminal tendencies and at least the potential of mental problems. Somehow, the idea of you moving in here just made me smile, and not in my normally nice way. I'd love to see them when they realize that Papa Smith is the new owner. :)
But seriously, if you're looking for something similar, let us know and we'll show you the place. We'll probably be putting it on the market in the next week or so and could afford to lower the price to split what a realtor would have cost us in fees if we sold it before we hired one.
Alas no more looking forward to that next party at the Hartley's. However I wish you all well. Great family, you deserve whatever good fortune you can wrestle out of life.
The closest airport is in Hartford, but there's no (that I could find) direct flights there. One of the main connecting flights is Minneapolis/St. Paul. Which, as I'm sure you're aware, is the home of the Mall of the Americas.
Definately congrats. Pat will be the new Director of Technology for HEC (Hampshire Educational Collaborative). It's a big jump, career wise (although the pay doesn't really reflect it as much as we'd like.) But their benefits package gets progressively better over time (after 5 years, they are paying 75% of the insurance premiums, etc) and they have a regular annual performance raise, rather than the "Twice in ten years, once when we had to actually quit to get more money" that he's got at the school district here.
And Northampton is a fabulous little town, a Mecca of culture and yet quaint and rural. And, apparently they have a gay nightclub that becomes a Goth club on Tuesday nights... Sound like anywhere we know? :)
Not sure, quite yet. We're going to have a huge garage sale next month some time (getting rid of most of our stuff) and then another small one right before we go. Packing and moving is going to be kept to a minimum, we're not going to take anything that we don't love with us. TVs, furniture, etc will all be replaced when we get out there. So, helping advertise the garage sale (not to mention folks coming to buy stuff) is one of the biggest helps we will need. Also, once the realtor is chosen, we're going to have them tell us what needs to be done to bring the house up to "Designed To Sell" status. So, we might end up having a painting party, or yard-work party on a last minute notice... That might be where we end up needing extra hands.
