In which we still don't know...

T4 Free test - Low
TSH test - also low

This isn't really supposed to happen. The TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) should be high if the T4 (one of the two Thyroid hormones) is low.  Could be lab error. Could be pituitary issues (the pituitary gland is what creates the TSH, in response to the thyroid not making enough of the right hormones.)

Doc is calling an endocrinologist, but we haven't heard anything back yet.  He wanted to just slap some thyroid meds on her, without knowing why this is low or whether it's causing the throat itch/cough issue. You can well imagine I said hell no. We're considering the ultrasound throat scan in order to see if there are any cold spots or nodes on her thyroid. Very non-intrusive, and might give us some information that the blood work can't.

I hate not knowing what's going on.
