In which we still don't know...

T4 Free test - Low
TSH test - also low

This isn't really supposed to happen. The TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) should be high if the T4 (one of the two Thyroid hormones) is low.  Could be lab error. Could be pituitary issues (the pituitary gland is what creates the TSH, in response to the thyroid not making enough of the right hormones.)

Doc is calling an endocrinologist, but we haven't heard anything back yet.  He wanted to just slap some thyroid meds on her, without knowing why this is low or whether it's causing the throat itch/cough issue. You can well imagine I said hell no. We're considering the ultrasound throat scan in order to see if there are any cold spots or nodes on her thyroid. Very non-intrusive, and might give us some information that the blood work can't.

I hate not knowing what's going on.

Good wishes to you all; I hope this is sorted out quickly and with minimal difficulty. Not knowing is a hard state to be in.

Honey, I hope everything works out.

I hope that the absolute worse that happens is that she has Superpowers.

But I'm worried that her superpowers would probably be growing to a Hundred Feet Tall and destroying Tokyo.

wow *hugs* that is crazy!! :( I hope the endocrinologist can figure it out

That sucks! My sister just had a scan of her thyroid on Friday. I hate that the doctors around here just want to band-aid everything and be done with you.

Prayers, love, and hugs to all of you. Gonna go home and reach up to hug my "baby" now.

Well, you now know something, and you're on a trail. Are you going to take her to an endo doc yourself too, or just filter it through this dude?

I hate not knowing, and I hate that medical science is still a lot about troubleshooting. I wish it was as certain as movies make it out to be.

Much love for the both of you.

Sending good thoughts your way hon. Hugs to you and your clan!

good on you for not letting him just throw meds at it. That can do as much, if not more, harm than good when you don't know.

*hugs* I hope you get it figured out soon!

YAY answer. Or at least a step towards an answer.

An ultrasound of her throat sounds like a good idea. Doing one on mine is what found the five, count 'em, five nodes in there, and the biggest one being 6cm in diameter. It was very easy and non-intrusive, indeed.

Hugs

Well hell.

Apparently they didn't hear my "Jess can be done, nao." memo upstairs.

I'll have to shout more loudly or something.

Much with the hugs and well wishes for yon Valkyrie.

You ARE changing docs, right? Didn't you say, like, two weeks or something? Best of luck with that; you're in my thoughts!
